While helping you reach your goals I incorporate tools and techniques from three scientifically researched approaches. Let me tell you a little more about each one and what it would look like to use these in our sessions:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is the idea that our thoughts affect our emotions, which affect our behaviors. Therefore, one of the main focuses of CBT is to uncover underlying thoughts, attitudes and belief systems you may have that are unhealthy, negative or rigid. Once we identify these unhealthy thought patterns our goal is to find ways to challenge and reframe them. In addition to addressing your thoughts, we also explore behavioral changes to support your new way of thinking and at times use these action goals to challenge your thoughts. CBT can help you reduce stress, cope with complicated relationships, deal with grief, depression or anxiety.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR, offers mindfulness and body awareness techniques to help you better regulate and manage your emotions. Mindfulness will teach you ways to pause, observe and be non-judgmental of your inner experiences. By bringing awareness to the present moment you can learn ways to be more accepting and grateful. You will also learn ways to practice mindfulness at any time and anywhere with the following benefits: improvements of your focus, attention, decrease in worry, better sleep, less feelings of burn-out and happier relationships.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, successfully combines the principles of CBT and mindfulness to teach you better ways to regulate your emotions, set healthy boundaries, have firm communication skills and tolerate distressful situations. This approach will teach you to how opposite things can co-exits, such as acceptance & change. While learning to accept things the way they are, you can still work towards changing aspect of self that is not helping you.
While you can anticipate learning more about these approaches and explore ways to integrate them into your life the most important aspect of your therapy session is that it will be tailored to your needs and where you wish to be. The foundation of our therapy sessions will be on trust, safety and acceptance.
